Call for Submissions: WOW Party

Theatre Women of the World – We Need You!

WOW_holdingpageslide_2014Are you a theatre artist, performance artist, musician or company?

GAP Salon (Gender and Performance) are inviting expressions of interest from 5 – 10 min acts for our 2014 WOW party celebration at The Southbank Centre on March 5th.

Produced in association with our friends at FemaleArts and So and So Arts Club, this WOW party will be a celebration of fantastic female artists.

Spoken word, music, scripted, standup. Groups, companies, solo artists. If you have something to say about being a Woman of the World then hit SEND and get in touch.

There will be great conversations.
There will be wine.
There will be dancing.

This is a no-budget endeavour, but it’s pretty exciting. We cannot offer you a lovely fee, but we can offer you nice people, a respectful atmosphere to work in, and lots of wine.

We can’t wait to meet you.

ABOUT WOW:

March 5 – 9th 2014 is the Women of the World Festival at the Southbank Centre.

Five days of shows, talks, events.

Five days examining what it means to be a Woman of the World.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

Please email gapsalonlondon@gmail.com with subject line ‘WOW Party Submission – [title of piece]’
In the body of the email, please provide:

  • your name
  • contact email & phone number
  • length of piece or excerpt
  • a short paragraph about the piece
  • any other performance dates for this piece, past or future.
  • a link or attachment with further information that best represents what you are proposing. (This could be your website, reviews, production photos, script, video or audio reel, etc.)
  • If your piece is not performance ready, please outline what needs to be done before March 5th (ie, ‘I need to find a director and a cast, rehearse the scene, and source props and costumes.’)

Closing date for submissions: Tuesday 11th February at 5PM.
We will aim to get in touch with all applicants by the end of that week.

What we are looking for practically:

Performances of 5-10 minutes in length, or an excerpt of that length from a longer work.
Performances with minimal production requirements (quick on and off stage, no tech)
Performers who are able to provide what they require in the form of props, costumes, and anything else needed for the performance.
Performers who will turn up on the night fully rehearsed and ready to go
Regretfully we are unable to offer rehearsal space or financial reimbursement. This is a no-budget production.
Performers must be available from 4-6PM on March 5 for get-in and transitions rehearsal.
The performance will take place from 7:45PM.

What we are looking for creatively:

We are looking for a balance of company work and solo performance.
We are looking for a balance of tones and subjects in work by or about women.
Pieces will be selected based on how they contribute to the celebratory and rebellious tone of our WOW Party, and how they resonate with other pieces over the course of the evening.

Priority will be given to pieces which are already in development, or have had recent performances.
We are not looking for brand new pieces to be rehearsed in this short time frame.

Thank you! We can’t wait to hear about your work.
